The Science of BOTOX®

Short for Botulinum toxin A, BOTOX® is a cosmetic injectable treatment specifically designed for non-surgical facial rejuvenation. It is formulated using a safe, low, controlled dose of neurotoxin produced by a bacterium called Clostridium botulinum.

BOTOX® works by blocking the nerves from sending a signal to the facial muscles so they will not contract. This results in a relaxed facial appearance and the delay of wrinkle formation.

The Ideal Candidate for BOTOX®

BOTOX® has been extensively studied and determined to be one of the safest most effective cosmetic procedures in existence. In general, 95% of patients who want to look more youthful make good candidates for BOTOX®. However, there may be cases wherein a patient may not qualify for BOTOX® treatments. A thorough consultation with our plastic surgeons or aesthetic nurse specialists at Aesthetx will help determine if this injectable treatment is right for you. Typically, those who qualify for BOTOX® treatments are those who are:

  • Between the age of 18 and 65
  • Not pregnant or nursing
  • In good overall health with no neurological, cardiovascular or metabolic disorders
  • Realistic with their expectations
  • Want to treat dynamic wrinkles, such as frown lines, forehead creases, upper lip lines, crow’s feet, and vertical furrows between the eyebrows
  • Want to prevent wrinkle formation and to hold off the appearance of the early signs of aging

How BOTOX® is Performed?

A BOTOX® treatment is relatively fast and simple to perform. Before the treatment starts, the surgeon or aesthetic nurse specialist will clean the areas to be injected thoroughly. They will then determine the placement of each injection to achieve the best results and make small marks on the skin. Following this assessment, the specialist will inject small units of BOTOX® into the targeted area using a fine needle. Depending on each patient’s needs, the doctor may administer several injections to achieve maximum results. As this is an outpatient procedure, the treatment takes only a few minutes and does not require sedation or anesthetics.

BOTOX® Recovery

What makes BOTOX® appealing is the fact that it does not require downtime or any major restrictions following the treatment. Once done, you may return to work immediately as long as it’s not physically strenuous. We also provide post-treatment recovery instructions to all our patients to minimize, if not eliminate, any complications.

Restoring Youth Starts with One Visit

The full effects of BOTOX® will be noticeable within one week, and the results can last up to six months.
