What is diVa™ vaginal laser therapy?
diVaTM simultaneously delivers two laser beams that work synergistically to target different levels and thus, improve the quality of the vaginal wall. The superficial laser beam may increase the number of glycogen rich cells (normally found at the surface layer of a healthy vaginal wall but lost as the tissue thins) and blood supply to allow for better lubrication and sensitivity with less pain during intercourse. The deeper beam may contribute to stronger muscles and better bladder control, so you experience less leakage with laughing, coughing, physical activity, or bearing down. Ultimately, this technique allows for a quick, comfortable, yet highly effective treatment with minimal downtime.
At Aesthetx, our physicians and their team tailor each treatment to your individual needs.
What conditions diVa™ vaginal laser may help treat? Note, that these are considered off-label and results vary.
- Laxity – decreased vaginal wall tone
Childbirth and even rigorous activity stretches the pelvic tissue, and while this largely goes back to normal, each carries vestiges of such experiences. The energy from diVaTM laser therapy stimulates collagen production, which may lead to tightening.
- Lubrication – vaginal wall dryness and tissue thinning
Menopause, hysterectomy, medications such as chemotherapy or some contraception, breast feeding, and intense physical activity reduce the amount of circulating estrogen and as a result, lead to delicate, dry tissue that is easily traumatized and may be painful during intercourse (dysparuneia). diVaTM may help build collagen and increase lubrication. This more youthful environment may also improve the overall pH and decrease risk of urinary tract or other infections.
- Leakage – stress incontinence by increasing the muscle around the urethra and bladder
Just like vaginal tissue can loosen or weaken, the bladder also changes over the course of a women’s life. Pressure from childbirth, running, weight lifting or any other activity that involves baring down and repeat pressure can lead to unwanted urine leakage. diVaTM laser therapy may increase tissue around the urethra to limit this problem as well.
Who is an ideal candidate for diVa™?
Any woman experiencing changes in vaginal tissue or mild to moderate stress incontinence.
How many treatments are necessary?
For optimum results, Drs. Zeidler, Berkowitx, and Hausauer recommend starting with a series of three treatments spaced approximately 1 month apart. You will likely need touch-up treatments at least annually depending on severity of symptoms and hormonal factors.
How long does a treatment take? How painful is it?
diVa’s high-tech engineering allows for comfortable treatment in as little as 3 to 5 minutes. Your provider will likely perform a quick exam prior to therapy then apply topical anesthetic cream. With these measures, pain is typically minimal.
What is the recovery and downtime?
Downtime is minimal with a small amount of discharge, spotting or discomfort on the day of treatment. Most return to their daily activites right away, although you should abstain from sexual intercourse, tampons, etc. for 48 hours.
What are the risks?
Few. There are no commonly reported side effects or permanent. Occasionally, the treatment is too effective with more than desired discharge and lubrication that subsides over time.
