Chin Augmentation

The chin is one of the most essential facial structures, as it adds character and definition to the face. For this reason, chin implant surgery is surging in popularity.

Dr. Zeidler and Dr. Berkowitz have the medical expertise in facial anatomy, artistry, and excellent surgical skills to improve the structure of the chin so that its appearance will be in harmony to the rest of the patient’s face.

Ideal Candidates for Chin Augmentation

Individuals who wish to augment their chin in order to improve their appearance and self-confidence can benefit greatly from a chin augmentation. Generally, patients who are in good overall health make for an ideal candidate. Additionally, the following characteristics can qualify the individual for a chin implant:

• Recessed chin
• Squared or pointed chin
• Prominent nose that looks asymmetric to the chin and the entire face
• In good health with no critical illnesses or major medical conditions
• Does not smoke
• Imbalance of the chin and jaw line
• Realistic expectations

Chin Augmentation Procedures

Chin augmentation can be performed noninvasively in the office setting with filler to provide a temporary result. Chin augmentation can be done surgically with either fat transfer, and bony advancement or a chin implant. Chin implants have fallen out of favor due to other options bein available but can provide a permanent solution with a simple operation. An advancement genioplasty is a technique that puts a cut through the bone to move a small portion of the chin forward. Fat can be strategically injected in the same way that filler is injected but for a more permanent solution. Any of these surgical procedures are performed at the Aesthetx’s state-of-the-art facility on an outpatient basis. During the surgery, the one of our surgeons will make an inconspicuous incision under the chin and strategically place the chin implant just beneath the skin or cut and advance the bone and place tiny screws to hold it in place.

Chin Augmentation Surgery Recovery

Typically, patients may experience discomfort, bruising and swelling within the first few days after surgery, but these symptoms will begin to improve within two days. Pain medication and a cold compress can alleviate these symptoms. If there are sutures inside the mouth, the doctor may advise some dietary modifications. External sutures are removed after 10 days, while internal sutures will dissolve on their own.
Activities may be limited to light ones within the first week after surgery. However, patients are required to walk around sporadically within the first week to improve blood flow. Patients may return to their normal routines, such as school and work, after the initial recovery period but should limit themselves to less strenuous activities for the next three to eight weeks.

Beautiful and Long-Lasting Results

Once the swelling and bruising have subsided, patients can expect to see a more contoured chin that will make their facial appearance more appealing. Like other facial surgical procedured, the outcome of a chin augmentation surgery is permanent, as long as the patient maintains a healthy weight.
