Your body changes in remarkable ways to prepare for pregnancy; unfortunately, these changes can often have drastic effects on a woman’s body that can compromise her body image and self-confidence—some of which are physically debilitating. From loose, stretched out skin and muscles, stubborn pockets of fat on the hips and things, to sagging breasts, women experience a myriad of consequences from childbirth. This is why so many women are turning to the “Mommy Makeover,” a series of procedures for body rejuvenation after pregnancy. These procedures can either be combined in one procedure for one recovery, or done in separate stages.
Mommy Makeover Topics
Why the Mommy Makeover
The Mommy Makeover was designed to reverse the physiological changes that happen to women after pregnancy and nursing. During pregnancy, a woman’s body experiences stretching skin, the widening of the rib cage, the rectus abdominal muscles leading to rectus diastasis (abdominal separation), and stubborn fat deposits around the waist and hips to ensure fat reserves for milk production. Despite rigorous exercise, many women find their waists too wide and unable to be flattened, particularly from the underlying rectus muscle diastasis. These weakened muscles are nearly impossible to tighten through exercise.
Women also find that their breasts have stretched and sagged, caused by the breasts enlarging from lactation and then eventually shrinking because of the reduction of fat tissue and milk glands.
The Mommy Makeover features body contouring procedures like abdominoplasty and liposuction along with breast enhancement procedures like the breast lift with implants and fat transfer. Every woman’s journey towards restoring her femininity will be unique to her, and whatever changes you desire, your Mommy Makeover will be tailored just for you.
The goals for the Mommy Makeover involve sculpting the body while narrowing the waistline and flattening the belly through a combination of liposuction and tailored abdominoplasty procedures. For the Mommy Makeover, one variation of the tummy tuck, called the Saldanha abdominoplasty is especially effective. The Saldanha technique is essentially a lipoabdominoplasty, a tummy tuck paired with liposuction. This procedure tightens abdominal skin while removing fat through liposuction and repairing the muscles through a small tunnel. Because this technique preserves an important source of blood supply and reduces drainage, the procedure is much safer, with a faster recovery and more dramatic results.
With the Mommy Makeover, our liposuction procedures target the hips, abdomen, outer thighs, and the inner thighs. Dr. Zeidler and Dr. Berkowitz use Hydrasolve, a specialized liposuction technology that creates the smoothest, most contoured results possible. If desired, these procedures for the Mommy Makeover can be paired with fat grafting to the face or breasts to create natural, youthful volume.
If you only need some muscle tightening and a small amount of skin removal below the belly button, then you might be a candidate for a tummy tuck variation called the modified endoscopic assisted abdominoplasty, a technique that only uses small hidden incisions and a small camera called an endoscope to assist in repairing muscle diastasis. For others with only a small amount of excess fat and skin and no need for a muscle repair, a mini-abdominoplasty might be the path to go.
Restoring the fullness and shape and of the breasts is an essential part of the Mommy Makeover. Aesthetx is one of the very few practices in the Bay Area that perform the short scar auto-implant technique, a type of breast lift that creates lift while reshaping the breast into a rounder, fuller, perkier form similar to a breast augmentation with implants. Using the patient’s own tissue, Dr. Berkowitz and Dr. Zeidler will rearrange your breast tissue to create fullness at the top of the breast. For long lasting results, the new tissue will be reinforced by a belt of a biological matrix.
As mentioned before, fat grafting using fat removed from liposuction can be used to add a little extra fullness and firmness to the breast, for an even fuller but natural effect.
Some women experience tears or stretching of the labia minora that can lead to discomfort with exercise and with sexual intercourse. A labiaplasty can reshape the labia by removing excess tissue until it’s a more comfortable size. As this is a short procedure, it’s commonly added to a Mommy Makeover procedure.
Mommy Makeover Recovery
While you and your surgeon will work together to make a plan for recovery, the typical recovery period is two weeks of rest, with the patient being able to return to rigorous activities after six weeks. After your Mommy Makeover, you will be provided with compression garments to help with the healing.
When a muscle repair is done, we recommend easing slowly back into core strengthening exercises over a 3 month time frame to ensure you have completely healed. Aesthetx believes in giving each patient the best care possible so that they can recover quickly and return to their normal routine; your Aeshtetx surgeon will be actively involved in your recovery from the Mommy Makeover.
Aesthetx is renowned for extremely informative and in-depth consultations. To schedule your private consultation for the Mommy Makeover or to learn more about the procedure, contact Aesthetx by visiting HERE or calling (408) 559-7177.
